About the Craft By Numbers: Indie Craft Stats Project

We are so excited about our groundbreaking new resource for craftepreneurs – what’s it all about?

Indulge your curiosity – we know you would love to peek through a window into the lives of other crafters…who are they?  What do you have in common?  At what types of craft shows do people *really* sell well?  What means success to an indie crafter?  How much time do makers really spend in actual crafting?  Where do they advertise?  How long did it take other crafters to grow their businesses?

We’re collecting data about all things craftepreneurial.  Everything from crafter demographics to production methods and advertising venues to etiquette and trends.  We intend to use this data to draw conclusions about craft business that will help you make informed and smart choices about your craft business.

Through monthly surveys, we will collect a giant database of craftormation that you can use to find your niche in the craft world.

Not only do we want your stats, we want your stories – your personal experiences, anecdotes, and advice.  This is about you and your continuing journey as a craftepreneur.

Crafters are intensely curious cats – how many times have you sat at a craft show watching other booths and wondered, how much are other makers really selling?  How many hours a days do others spend on their craft?  We have our ideas, suspicions, and our own experiences to draw on…but wouldn’t you like to know how things really shake down?

We can also be a protective bunch, carefully guarding our trade secrets and lessons learned in order to maximize our sales and success…but does it really help to hoard your knowledge?  We firmly believe that sharing data can not only create a stronger craft community, it can strengthen our individual business success without at all undermining others’ successes.

In other words, sharing your craft stats is a win-win!

Our first survey is live – please fill it out and grab the “I Craft by Numbers” blog button to show your crafty pride!
